Ironically as a creator attempting to make money on these platforms I’m encouraged to turn on notifications , post notes 3x per day, DM people etc. I need to immerse myself in this world and become part of it and that includes posting across multiple social media platforms. I find myself checking to see if my bell has a notification like Pavlov’s dog.
Anyway, I listened to the article while playing chess on chess.com as well. 🤯
Back in the 70’s my mom would tell us to stop watching TV and go outside. She would say all that TV time would rot our brains. And off we would go. But now I see so many kids outside but on phones, and when they are home it’s binge watching tv or playing video games. It’s so hard to get it under control it seems. As an older adult, I think we have lives outside of technology, but this is life for young people. As a nurse, seeing the depression and anxiety this causes is awful.
I'm reading The 5 Resets right now and paused at popcorn brain. I've been reading more about it (from pieces you wrote before this), and I think that's something I'm dealing with. I took your suggestion and tracked the number of times I reached for my phone over three hours from 10 am - 1 p.m. today. 12 times! Yikes! I always thought I had decent self-control with my phone, but I plan to implement additional boundaries NOW.

Totally get it. Check out my other posts on creating digital boundaries as a creator.
I started wearing a watch again. I found if I look at my wrist instead of my phone to see what time it is I save 5 minutes of phone checking time...
This is a great workaround! I started doing this recently and it truly helps.

You summed it up so well. We are beholden to our devices, especially digital natives.
